Approximately 400 children are injured or killed in pedestrian and bike related incidents each year. Since 1997, the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) has been offering a school safety program aimed at raising awareness about the importance of pedestrian and traffic safety.
In 2007, OTS and Calder Bateman Communications undertook a multi-stage project to redevelop these curriculum support materials, replacing materials over a 3 to 4 year period. Johnston Research supported the redevelopment with a series of research projects:
This has been an especially satisfying research project to be involved in, watching research results help to inform the overall concept of the school traffic safety program and then fine tune the materials. Research respondents have been especially positive about the quality of materials being developed.
